Brass Cat Design is my creative exploration in jewellery. With help from my feline 'assistant', Nero, it is my aim to create beautiful and unique, nature-inspired handmade jewellery for you and your loved ones. My collections include delicate silver leaf motifs, earthy copper jewellery, adorable animal pendants, and stylish hammered silver jewellery.
I've always been creative and, in my teens, I loved to make jewellery using beads and wire wrapping techniques. After school, I studied art and design and went to Edinburgh College of Art where I took jewellery classes but ended up specialising in Animation and Painting. Many years later I re-visited my love of jewellery making and began my own handmade jewellery business. I then discovered silver clay and began exploring this new medium, inspired by its creative possibilities.

Since early 2015, my love and passion for jewellery has become my life and my career, as I work on it full-time from a small jewellery studio that I share with three other designers.
I work mostly with silver and copper clay, which is a wonderfully creative medium. Malleable when wet, it can be cut, shaped and textured like clay. When fired, it creates a piece of solid pure silver (99.9%) or copper (99.5%).

Rather than use generic bought texture mats or shape cutters, most of my designs are cut and shaped completely by hand. Textures are created from moulds that I make, or leaves, fabrics, and other found items. I also use tools to draw on and carve the clay by hand. These techniques ensure that my jewellery is completely unique and imbued with its own personality. Watch the short video to see this in action. |
My collections are constantly changing as I create new work and develop ideas. My biggest inspiration comes from nature as seen in my cute animal collection, and delicately textured leaves.
